Unfortunately, just as the case with driving under the influence, distracted driving often affects the innocent – those who are taking driving seriously but are caught off guard by another driver who does not. Although laws have lagged behind continually emerging technology, they are now beginning to catch up. It is now coming to light that distracted drivers pose as much if not more risk than those driving while intoxicated. Laws in many areas not only address texting and hand held phones but in some areas even hands free devices are being restricted as well.

State Law Protects Kids

Alabama now has a law designed to prevent kids from playing sports if a concussion is suspected. The law was signed by Gov. Robert Bentley this past year. It requires parents and coaches to learn about the dangers (and hopefully symptoms) of concussions and stops kids from playing until cleared by a doctor. This law addresses many levels of sports from peewee soccer to high school football.
